The other day on the way to work I was listening to the radio. It was one of those 'guess the top answer in a survey' and people were ringing up trying to guess. The question was ' What is the one thing you can't do now because you are a Mummy?' I stopped and thought for a moment and my mind went blank. I couldn't think of anything that wasn't obvious as I knew it would probably be something you wouldn't expect people to say. I was listening to the callers saying things like 'go out clubbing till 4am' or 'sleeping in till noon'.
The actual top answer given my 79% of the Mums asked was ' Bounce on a trampoline or similar type of exercise'
I wasn't actually surprised that 79% of the people answered this as I know its quite common but I was shocked that they admitted to having bladder sensitivity as it is quite a taboo subject.
1 in 3 women over the age of 18 experience bladder sensitivity at some point and for millions of people it is actually pregnancy and childbirth that brings on the condition.
On October 28th Always Discreet are launching new research which will reveal that millions of British women are feeling older than their years. 42% of the women surveyed admitted that due to their bladder sensitivity they feel much older and less attractive than their peers.
Bringing it back to the 'trampoline' answer above - Always Discreet say 1 in 3 (37%) would exercise more if they could but due to their bladder they simply can not do it.

Dr Sarah Jarvis, practicing GP and Always Discreet campaign ambassador comments: “Not being able to dress, travel, exercise or live the way you want can be an everyday experience for so many women. Not only that, but even though 1 in 3 women in the UK over the age of 18 experience the condition, it is still wrongly associated with old age and this misperception can leave women feeling embarrassed, alone and much older than they really are. However, there is help at hand, such as Always Discreet, that provides women with bladder leaks with the protection and discretion they really need”
If you do suffer from bladder sensitivity I suppose it's nice to know you are not alone. Just because women don't talk about it, it doesn't mean they are not suffering too. Share how you are feeling with someone because it's always good to talk.
