On a wet and windy Saturday we headed up the M6 to Blackpool for the 1st ever Uk Slimefest. I had googled Slimefest and it looked so much fun so I knew both big and little J would love it. The event was part of the Blackpool Illuminations Switch On.
I was really looking forward to see Alesha Dixon perform, I love her songs and she performed some of her biggest hits, including ‘The Boy Does Nothing’. The crowd especially the girls were screaming at the top of their lungs for Conor Maynard who performed songs from his number one album ‘Contrast'.
The Tide were also there and wow, they are good. I had not heard of them before. they are a California Based band who were a huge hit with the teenage girls who had 'The Tide' written on their foreheads.
Before I go any further I will obviously have to mention the Slime. Yes actually green gooey slime. (it is called Slimefest for a reason)
There is a Slime Pit which is available to children over 8 and a Slime Free Zone which did actually remain slime free which is impressive. I didn't dare take my phone or camera out incase green slime oozed from the ceiling. The Slime pit is a different story. If you are in the Slime pit you most certainly will get slimed. The kids absolutely loved it. It was like a child version of a mosh pit.
The stars of the show for us was Diversity. they are absolutely amazing, even better in real life. They are fast paced, slick and we were genuinely mesmerised by their talent.
We didn't attend the below due to the weather but I just wanted to highlight what was on offer.
Free Family SLIMEFEST Festival Experience
In collaboration with Nickelodeon, we hosted a free family festival SLIMEFEST experience at the Blackpool Tower Festival Headland over the weekend. Unfortunately, torrential rain on the Saturday washed a lot of slime away, but the Sunday proved a hit with visitors who got free goodies and the chance to participate in some slimy events.
Divided into four zones: Slime, Music, Mayhem and Nick Jr., the free festival showground had something for each member of the family. The Slime Zone played home to gooey activities such as ‘Slime and Spoon’ Races and ‘Slime Tennis’, while the Music Zone was the place for families to show off their moves.
The Nickelodeon Slime Crew were showing off their incredible skills with BMX bike tricks and urban gymnastics in the Mayhem Zone whilst younger kids enjoyed pre-school focussed activities in the Nick Jr. area.
In addition to the four areas, the SLIMEFEST area at Tower Festival Headland was visited by some of our favourite Nickelodeon costume character friends from Nickelodeon Land at Blackpool Pleasure Beach! These included Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
On both days, there was a very special outdoor screening of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of the Shadows’ to celebrate the DVD, Blu-Ray and digital release this October.
Overall the Slimefest was an amazing experience. I have to say that there was a few problems with wristbands and the starting time of the show. We arrived just before the show start time and there was still hundreds of people queuing in the rain outside. I'm not sure what happened but the available staff were making sure the problems were rectified as quickly as possible.
