A few weeks ago we received a new game for us to try, Perudo. Perudo is based on a Peruvian dice game known as Liar's Dice. It is a skillful game that requires guesswork, bluff and luck. We love playing games and this looked lots of fun.
The setup of the game is very straightforward. Each player takes a cup and 5 dice all of the same colour. When the game begins every player must roll their dice inside their own cup.
After shaking their dice, players turn the cups over so that the dice remain hidden under the cup.
Each player has to bid and guess at the quantity of a dice number. When a player believes that another player has over-estimated and unable to raise the bidding any further, they say Dudo, which means ‘I doubt’ in Spanish.
All players then uncover their dice, starting with the player who called Dudo first, and count the relevant value and added to the number of aces revealed. If there are enough dice of that number, then the player who called Dudo must place a die in the discard pile. If there are not, then the player who made the last bid must place a die in the middle. In either case, a new round begins. All dice that are removed from the game should be concealed in the pouch so that the total number of dice in play is obscured. The last player left with at least one die wins the game.
I have to admit that although setup is easy the game's rules are complicated at first and it does take a lot of 'checking the rule book' to begin with. Once we got used to the rules the game did flow a lot easier. The game is designed for 2 or more players although we tried it with 2 players and it was over very quickly.
The game comes in a stylish tin although if you wish to take the game with you on your travels it comes with a easy to use and carry drawstring bag.
I have teamed up with Paul Lamond to offer my readers and followers the chance to win Perudo. All you need to do is use the entry form below.
Perudo is available to buy at most good retailers including John Lewis and Amazon
