At the beginning of the Summer I spoke to the boys about keeping active over the school holidays. I know that the Summer is time to relax and enjoy yourself without the pressure of having to get up early but I wanted to make sure that we didn't just laze around for 6 weeks. Not so much little J but big J would sit online on his Xbox all day if you let him so I had to have a plan. I asked the boys to go in the shed and choose all the things they could find that could help us stay active this Summer. Typical boys just dumped everything on the grass but then they did make a nice arrangement in the end.
Football
Both boys absolutely love football so we tend to take a ball with us whenever we go out to a park. It's so much fun kicking the ball around and they don't even realise that they are getting lots of exercise too. Big J goes to our local football astro turf grounds during the Summer and can spend hours on there. It's so nice to have an astro turf ground so close, he loves going there and I hope little J does to when he is a bit older.
Bike Rides
Bike rides are so much fun for all the family and again a very simple activity. Both boys love their bikes and we try and take them with us on days out as much as possible. We have a park close by which is perfect for a nice bike ride on a sunny day. It has lots of hills which is great to get the legs working hard and coming down is always lots of fun.
Scooter Rides
Little J learnt to ride his scooter before his bike so he is always keen to chose the scooter first when asked which one he wants to take out. We do try and mix it up and he will usually choose the scooter if his brother does. Big J has had so many different types of scooters over the years. He's had 4 wheels, 3 wheels, 2 wheels, zip scooters and now probably his favourite an electric scooter. It does mean the scooter does all the work but it is lots of fun.
Trampolining
We are lucky to have our own trampoline in the garden and we all use it. It's great exercise and bouncing is so much fun. I love watching little J who can bounce for hours if you let him. When both boys go on together they usually make up games or try and tag each other with the ball.
Tennis
You may have read our post recently about little J going to tennis lessons. He absolutely loves tennis and since then he wants to play tennis all the time. He knows how to swing the racket and enjoys hitting the ball up high and running to try and catch it. Big J loves tennis too and its lovely watching them play together.
How are you trying to keep the kids active this Summer?
