AD | I Love My Kitchen

Disclosure - This is a paid post in collaboration with Fishpools

We have had our new kitchen now for over 12 months but I still love it as much as I did the first time I saw it. Our previous  kitchen was somewhere I used to cook in, do the dishes and not much else. I didn't like it at all. It was old, out of date and I would try and spend as little time in there as possible. When it was time to have a kitchen makeover I wanted to create a space that I would enjoy spending time in. Somewhere that was bright, fresh and modern. I am so happy to say that after 16 years of living in our home I finally love my kitchen.

Creating a kitchen was not an easy task, it was hard work. We spent months deciding on the kitchen cupboards, what design we wanted, then what colour. We changed our minds so many times and once we had decided on the design and colour the hardest thing then was to choose tiles. There are just so many possibilities, small tiles, large tiles or no tiles at all. The choices were endless.

I think when you haven't designed a kitchen before it's hard to know where to start. The first idea that will come to your mind is to Google. Google has the answer to everything. We spent so many hours browsing online, looking at different websites for ideas. Pinterest was great especially for modern kitchen ideas. We also found interior blogs which gave us some great ideas and store blogs too. We recently came across Fishpool's blog which gives you lots of ideas on How To Create A Kitchen Like The Celebrities. I was drawn to Courtney Cox's kitchen as it looks so bright, clean and fresh and would be the perfect place to start your morning. There is so much light and that's so important.

Letting in daylight was something we struggled with in our old kitchen as we only had a small window and a door to the garden. Our builder actually spoke to us about the possibility of combining the door and small window space with one large window, moving the door to the garden over to the far side of the kitchen. I wasn't sure at first as it seemed a lot of work for not much in return, I was wrong. It has completely changed the kitchen and the amount of light we get now is amazing. It's such a nice feeling seeing the sun shine in while you are making breakfast.

It's quite sad that we 'put up' with our old kitchen for so long. I didn't actually realise how unhappy I was with our old kitchen until one day I couldn't bear to look at it any more.  Obviously a new kitchen isn't something you can just buy one day, it takes time to plan and save for. I would suggest that if you are looking at getting a new kitchen in the near future then start browsing for ideas now as it could save you lots of time when the day actually comes.
