Ice Age Game on Nintendo Switch
From Outright Games, makers of Dragons Dawn Of New Riders and Paw Patrol On A Roll games comes the latest Ice Age game for Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.  Scrat's Nutty Adventure is available now and we have had the opportunity to try it out on Nintendo Switch.

The game is aimed at Ice Age fans, however from my first hours play through, I am really enjoying the game and I haven't watched many of the later Ice Age films, and wouldn't say I was a fan! Little J, however is a huge fan of Ice Age, and was really looking forward to getting his teeth into this game!

The idea of the game is to join Scrat on his quest to find the Crystal Nuts. Scrat needs to find the four legendary crystal nuts to unlock a mysterious mechanism that has locked away his prize possession.  As you guide Scrat through his adventure you will come across pre-historic creatures, and maybe meet some famous friends too.

You will visit locations from the films, and be able to upgrade to give Scrat special powers to enable him to jump higher, move heavier objects and find all the hidden treasure within the game. You will also need to battle wolves, insects and mid game bosses, all of whom are presented in cartoon fashion so as not to make them too scary for the little ones.

Little J really enjoyed starting out on the journey with Scrat. On Switch he found the controls easy to master, with one joystick for movement and the other to move the camera, and then simple commands on the buttons to make Scrat jump, creep and attack. The game encourages problem solving early on, for example Scrat has to jump over a series of boulders, each one higher then the previous one to be able to reach some crystal nuts which then shows a cut scene pointing out the next destination.  For some of the paths, Little J kept falling and being reset which he found frustrating at first, but with a little practice and encouragement he was able to work out which buttons to press to allow him to get through.

Scrat's Nutty Adventure reminds me of a number of previous platform type games I have played in the past such as Crash Bandicoot or Spyro The Dragon.  If you like these type of games then you will love this one.  The game is varied, offers a large map that you are free to fast travel around once you have unlocked all the areas, and also there is a replay factor in that there are also hidden statues, and pieces of treasure in each area that you will want to go back and find. For younger players, once they have mastered the controls, the game is really simple and offers a fun element too as Scrat falls and screams and generally has some really bad luck.

Scrat's Nutty Adventure is available on PS4, Xbox ONE, PC and Nintendo Switch. For more information on Ice Age - Scrat's Nutty Adventure you can visit Outright Games. The game is available to buy in store at Smyths and Game or online at Amazon
