Celebrating Our 10th Wedding Anniversary

10 years ago today John and I said 'I do' after being together for 10 years to the month. All my life I had never wanted the big white wedding and although most girls dream of walking down the aisle those thoughts never entered my head. I always had a dream of getting married in New York City. This might surprise people since I am such a huge Disney fan but I am also a fan of romance and almost all my favourite romantic comedies are set in New York so that was my dream.

John and I met in 1998 but didn't start dating properly until 2000. I knew as soon as I met him he was the one and luckily he felt the same. Over the past 20 years we have had so much happiness and joy but we have also suffered sadness and heartbreak and if I am honest it's the heartbreak that made us stronger and closer than ever before.

We never had any concrete plans on how we were going to celebrate our 10 year anniversary although knowing us we would have been in New York City right now after booking a spur of the moment trip. Big J was with us when we got married and was only a year older than little J is now. We are so close as a family that I hate that little J missed out on our wedding and that we experienced it without him. I would have loved to go back and make new memories ten years on as a family of four.

The past twenty years haven't been easy and we have definitely had our ups and our downs but we really are the best of friends and I can't imagine being with anyone else. John makes me laugh every single day which is pretty good after twenty years together. People say your life changes after you get married but ours actually didn't. We have always been best friends and a team and with or without a ring I already knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.
