It's no secret I am a huge fan of the Fletcher family. Whilst I absolutely love McFly and pretty much everything they have written and performed my heart will always bring me back to the theatre. Musicals were my first love and I will never forget the day I went to the West End to see Grease for my birthday. It blew me away. I've never wanted to be on stage, I never had the dream but it did make me want to see every musical or theatre show I can. I'm doing pretty well so far and will always give something a try so when John bought me tickets to see An Open Book I knew I would love it because from what I had read, it would be songs performed from musicals by Carrie Hope Fletcher. What more could you want?
Waiting in the audience for a show to start is always an exciting feeling especially when you can see the staging. An Open Book stage set was made up of a comfy couch, bookcase, plenty of books, lots of dim lighting and a desk with a MacBook on. We soon find out once the show starts that this isn't a room in a house, we are in Carrie's brain. The cosy, comfy area where she likes to store her song lyrics and her memories. There is a problem though, Carrie needs to perform a show however she has had trouble writing it and needs the audience to help her create a perfect show and set list.
Each night the audience have the chance to vote from a range of Carrie's memories which are then followed up with a song. A real fun and exciting idea for a stage show and a nice chance to hear some of Carrie's stories including 'A Saucy Scoop' 'A Tale As Old As Time' and also the chance for her share a funny memory of her brother, Tom, which she followed with her favourite McFly song.
There were some set list pieces that won't change throughout the tour such as the opening numbers to each act and a few personal songs to Carrie. It was quite amazing to hear Carrie sing such a wide range of songs and be absolutely flawless. Each song looked effortless.
I won't share the set list as I had no idea what songs would be sung and I preferred the not knowing, however you can probably get the set list somewhere on the world wide web if you search.
An Open Book was the perfect chance for Carrie to show off her talent and also to be proud of what she has achieved. Not only has Carrie got some iconic roles under her belt such as Éponine from Les Mis, Cinderella and Veronica from Heathers she is also a best selling Author with 9 books in her catalogue so far and she's only 30!
