Last Update Sept 2024

Disclosure - We were invited to enjoy the trail for the purpose of this post. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own.

Last year we visited our very first Halloween Light Trail. We have done lots of light trails at Christmas time but we had never done a spooky one before. I remember how curious we were as we had no idea what to expect, we just knew to wrap up warm and prepared for a spooky walk. Last week I saw an announcement that the Halloween Lakeside Light Trail is back for 2024 and we could not wait to visit. If you are a fan of all things spooky you will love the family friendly trail and if you are looking for something a little scarier you can visit their Terror Trail, that's new for 2024.

As the sun dips below the horizon and the moon casts its gentle glow upon the tranquil waters, a mesmerizing world of Halloween wonder comes to life around the lakes. Imagine strolling along a winding path that hugs the water’s edge, leading you on a magical journey through woodland transformed by eerie and captivating lights.

Shadows of witches on broomsticks, bubbles floating out of cauldrons, and spiders crawling out of trees all lit up by magical lights create an immersive experience that feels like stepping into a living Halloween storybook.

Our Thoughts
Our visit to the Halloween Lakeside Light Trail was a completely different experience than last year. Firstly it was dry rather than the very wet Monday night we experienced last year and it was bigger than better than last year with lots more added along the way plus spooky live actors too.

On arrival we were directed to the car park which is within a short walk to the entrance of the trail. The entrance had a large seating area with a variety of food and drink vendors. The seating area had a large covering with heaters perfect for a wet or cold evening.

When we arrived it was already dark so we were ready to head to the trail straight away. The trail is located around the lake and is just under 1km long.

There was a short queue as they gathered a certain number of guests inside a large teepee to watch a short video. The video tells the story of Luna the Witch and how we must try and find her along the trail to hep her find her long lost love. Once we had finished the video we were free to start the trail.

You could tell straight away that this years trail was going to be bigger than last year as we came to a spooky pair of ghouls. Live actors are new for 2024 and they really did add to the trail. They interacted with both adults and children and most of them had a story to tell. The actors are spooky and not scary making it still an extremely family friendly light trail.

There were also staff members dotted around the trail on hand to answer any questions and take any photographs.

We had so many highlights this year but the swing had a big thumbs up from little J, the smoky bubbles which he also enjoyed popping last year and also the coffin which you could step inside.

The trail is mostly flat. We received an email prior to our arrival to say that the path could be slippy and wet in places due to the weather however we thought it was absolutely fine. I guess it could get a little slippy in places so just bear that in mind especially if in a wheelchair or taking a pushchair.

The teepee at the end of the trail is where you will find Luna as she makes a potion to help bring her long lost love back. There were also toilets and a bar here too with a seating area.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Halloween Lakeside Light Trail this year. It's definitely made us ready for Halloween.

This year as well as the main trail there is an option to join a Terror Trail. This is scary rather than spooky and is suitable for those age 14+ if visiting before 7pm. After 7pm its adults only (18+). It does say this trail is terrifying so you would have to keep this in mind if under 18. The website hints at staff being dressed up so I would definitely expect live actors. This one wouldn't be for me as I am a wimp but it does sound fun if you like that sort of thing.
