When choosing to visit Copenhagen I knew the vibrant capital of Denmark is renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture but I wanted to explore the family-friendly attractions. When researching Copenhagen there are attractions that pop up time and time again and Home of Carlsberg brewery is one of them. While the name may initially conjure images of hops and barley, this historic brewery tour offers an engaging experience for visitors of all ages with many reviewers saying how much their children enjoyed the experience. I was intrigued to find out how a brewery tour could be appealing to children but yes, even though the primary focus is on beer, Carlsberg have seamlessly woven in elements that make it a fantastic outing for families, and it’s conveniently included with the Copenhagen Card too.

Family-Friendly Features: Beyond the Brew

Despite the primary focus on beer, Carlsberg has made sure that the brewery tour is welcoming for families. Children and adults alike can enjoy a range of activities that make the visit enjoyable for everyone.

The Courtyard Experience
One of the highlights of the Carlsberg Brewery tour is the charming courtyard area. Here, families can take a break and engage in several activities designed to keep children entertained. The large open space and friendly atmosphere make it an ideal spot for families to unwind together. We spotted a few classic games such as table football and bean bag toss, which were perfect for us to enjoy. We had a little table football tournament which was fun.

The Carlsberg Horses
We also got the chance to see the famous Carlsberg horses. They have been a part of Carlsberg’s heritage since the late 19th century. Families can visit the stables where the horses are kept and learn about their important role in the brewery’s history. It’s a unique opportunity for children and adults to get up close to the horses and understand how they contributed to Carlsberg’s past.

Interactive Exhibits
The brewery tour includes a range of interactive exhibits that cater to curious minds of all ages. Kids can explore how beer is made through engaging displays and hands-on activities that simplify the brewing process. We enjoyed creating our own poster, making the perfect beer and even designed our own label.

Beer Bottle Collection
Towards the end of the tour you will stumble upon the largest collection of beer bottles I have ever seen. You won't want to miss it. We spent ages looking at bottles we haven't seen for a long time, remembering how beer bottles used to look in the past.

A Refreshing Finish
At the end of the tour, visitors are rewarded with a complimentary drink. While this is a highlight for adults, kids can also enjoy a refreshing non-alcoholic option. This was a lovely end to the tour and made Little J feel even more included than he already did.

Extending Your Visit With The Beer Tasting Experience
The beer tasting add-on offers a uniquely intimate experience that immerses you in the rich history and craft of Danish brewing. It's a long way down to the brewery's historic cellars, however this made the whole experience more atmospheric.

The tasting session is more than just a chance to sample exceptional beer, it's an exploration into the heritage and artistry behind each brew. As we settled into the dimly lit cellar, we were greeted by our host who guided us through a selection of three distinct Carlsberg beers that she had chosen for us to try.

Each beer is carefully chosen to showcase Carlsberg's different brewing techniques. Our host then invited the group to share their thoughts and impressions.

The experience lasted about 30 minutes and they were not shy with the beer at all. This was a lovely add on experience but definitely not for kids. Little J wasn't offered a non-alcoholic drink or even water, in fact he wasn't acknowledged at all. This is understandable as it is a beer tasting experience but as the rest of the day had been so family friendly I do feel even just offering him a soda would have made him feel included.

The Perfect Family Day Out
The Home of Carlsberg Brewery does offer a family-friendly experience that goes beyond the usual beer tour. With its combination of interactive exhibits, engaging activities for children, and the chance to see historical Carlsberg horses, the brewery is an excellent choice for a family outing. The inclusion of Carlsberg Brewery in the Copenhagen Card makes it even more accessible, providing an added bonus for visitors exploring the city.

As a family of 3 adults and 1 child I really didn't want to miss the tour as our eldest was really keen so to be able to experience it as a family was definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Copenhagen.
