We have used Stromma a few times over the past year We enjoyed a pizza cruise in Amsterdam and the hop on hop off bus. When we decided to go to Copenhagen I hoped that there would be Stromma hop on hop off bus and was happy there was. Using the Stromma hop on hop off bus to explore a city is so easy and enjoyable and the perfect way to see the best that Denmark’s capital has to offer. The city is rich with history, culture, and stunning architecture, and with Stromma’s well-organised hop on hop off service, you can experience it all at your own pace. We were lucky that the hotel we stayed at in Copenhagen was just a minute walk away from a bus stop so was ideal for us to travel around the city.

Why Choose The Stromma Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing Bus?

Why Choose the Stromma Hop On Hop Off Bus?

Stromma’s hop on hop off bus service stands out as an excellent choice for exploring Copenhagen due to its convenience, flexibility, and comprehensive coverage of the city’s major attractions. The service offers three distinct routes, red, green, and purple. Each route is designed to provide a unique perspective on Copenhagen’s diverse neighbourhoods and landmarks.

Red Route
This route primarily covers the historical and central areas of Copenhagen, offering easy access to many of the city’s most iconic sites. The red route is particularly convenient for those interested in exploring the heart of the city. This is the route we used the most.

Green Route
The green route extends further into the city’s green spaces and residential areas, offering a different angle of Copenhagen’s charm, including some of its lesser-known but equally delightful spots.

Purple Route
This route focuses on modern Copenhagen, featuring contemporary architecture and vibrant districts, showcasing the city’s evolution and innovation.

Each of the routes are designed to complement the others, allowing passengers to mix and match according to their interests and schedule.

There is one stop along the routes where all three buses stop at so it's quite easy to jump from one to another.

Top Ten Attractions You Can See from the Bus

Attractions you visit are down to personal preference however these top ten attractions really are a must see. If you do decide to travel using the Stromma hop on hop off sightseeing bus you can create your own top ten attractions.

Tivoli Gardens
The historic amusement park is a must-see. Located on the red route, Tivoli Gardens is one of the oldest operating amusement parks in the world and a central attraction in Copenhagen. Our hotel was within walking distance from Tivoli Gardens and stop 12 which was the only stop all three buses stopped at.

Nyhavn
One of my favourite stops. Famous for its colourful 17th-century buildings and lively atmosphere, Nyhavn is a picturesque waterfront area that’s easily visible from the red and green routes.

The Little Mermaid
We saw the statue from the Stromma Canal Cruise so we didn't actually stop at this attraction. The Little Mermaid Statue is arguably Copenhagen’s most famous landmark. The statue is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale and is prominently featured on the red route.

Rosenborg Castle
A stunning Renaissance castle housing the Danish crown jewels, Rosenborg is a highlight on the green route and offers a glimpse into Denmark’s regal past.

Amalienborg Palace
Home to the Danish royal family, Amalienborg is a significant cultural site on the red route. Its impressive architecture and the changing of the guard ceremony are particularly notable. The changing of the guard happens at 12 noon every day and I can recommend. It's a must see.

The Round Tower (Rundetårn)
This 17th-century observatory and historic tower provide panoramic views of the city and are featured on the red route. We loved The Round Tower (RundetÃ¥rn) it's unique as there is no steps up to the observation deck. Visitors climb to the top via a spiralilng slope.

Christiansborg Palace
This impressive building hosts the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court. It’s visible from the red route and is a key site for understanding Denmark’s political history. The tower is free for those who like heights and viewing the city from above.

National Museum of Denmark
Located on the green route, this museum offers extensive exhibits on Danish cultural history, including Viking artefacts and medieval relics.

The Black Diamond (Den Sorte Diamant)
A modern architectural marvel, the Royal Danish Library’s extension is a striking contrast to Copenhagen’s older buildings. It’s visible from the purple route.

Freetown Christiania
A unique and vibrant neighbourhood known for its alternative lifestyle and art, Christiania is accessible from the green and purple routes.

How Long Does the Tour Take?

The total duration of a complete circuit on each route varies. Generally, the red route took around 75 minutes, the green route approximately 60 minutes, and the purple route about 50 minutes. You can hop on and off at your convenience to spend more time at specific attractions.

Benefits of Using the Stromma Hop On Hop Off Bus

The Stromma hop on hop off bus offers several advantages that make it a top choice for visitors. First and foremost, it provides a flexible way to see the city. With frequent departures and the option to hop on and off at numerous stops, you can tailor your sightseeing experience to your interests and schedule.

The buses are equipped with informative audio guides available in multiple languages, giving you insights into the city’s history and culture as you travel. We had the same driver on the red route a few times and he would always point out attractions and chat to his passengers along the way.

The open-top design of the buses ensures you have excellent views of the city’s landmarks and can enjoy Copenhagen’s pleasant weather. Unfortunately it was drizzly when we visited so only experienced the open top once.

Having the ability to choose between the three routes (red, green, and purple) meant we were able to plan the attractions we wanted to visit and group them together based on the route.

For us using the hop on hop off bus to explore the city of Copenhagen with Stromma meant we got to see a lot more of Copenhagen than we had initially planned. We combined the Stromma hop on hop off with the Copenhagen Card which was ideal to visit the top attractions. Having the flexibility to hop on and off at our convenience is ideal for anyone looking to make the most of their visit. Whether you’re interested in historical landmarks, modern architecture, or unique neighbourhoods, the Stromma hop on hop off bus ensures that you’ll see the best of Copenhagen in comfort and style.
