A Step Back in Time

The Murder on the Orient Express UK tour delivers the magic of one of the most famous trains in history. From the moment you step into the theatre, you are transported back to the glamorous 1930s—an era where luxury travel reigned supreme and mystery lingered in the air. The set design is a feast for the eyes, with luxurious train interiors beautifully recreated, capturing the elegance and charm of a bygone era. You can almost hear the clinking of champagne glasses and the hum of the engine as the Orient Express makes its way through snowy Europe.

The Plot Thickens

As fans of detective stories, we knew we were in for a treat. The story follows the famous detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates the murder of a passenger on the luxurious train. Each character harbours a secret, and as the tension builds, you're left guessing who the culprit is, right until the final reveal. The twists and turns are perfectly timed, and for those who haven’t read the novel or seen the film adaptations, there’s a sense of thrill in trying to piece together the clues.

Even though it’s a murder mystery, the humour throughout keeps the show light and engaging. Poirot’s dry wit, combined with the quirky personalities of the passengers, had us laughing out loud at moments, only to be sitting on the edge of our seats in the next.

Family-Friendly Fun?

While Murder on the Orient Express is known for its gripping suspense, it's a show that’s surprisingly suitable for older children who enjoy a good mystery. It's a great way to introduce them to the works of Agatha Christie, the queen of crime fiction, and spark an interest in classic literature and theatre. That said, younger children may find the plot and dialogue a little challenging to follow, so it’s best suited for tweens and up.

The Cast Brings It to Life

The actors were outstanding, breathing life into Christie’s beloved characters. Everyone, from the glamorous Countess Andrenyi to the mysterious Mrs. Hubbard, played their parts impeccably, adding to the intrigue of the show. And, of course, Poirot was masterfully portrayed, with the iconic detective’s mannerisms, accent, and attention to detail perfectly executed. Watching him use his famous “little grey cells” was a highlight for all of us.
