Disclosure - We were invited to Breakout Chester for the purpose of this post. All thoughts, opinions and photographs are our own.
Escape rooms are something both John and I enjoy and usual plan for our date nights. However over the past year we have been experiencing Escape Rooms as a family and it is such a fun family activity to enjoy together. At first I wasn't so sure doing Escape Rooms in a group of four, I thought we would get under each others feet or argue over clues and answers. I was wrong. It's a great way for us all to work together, enjoy each others company and four brains are definitely much better than two. We have visited quite a few escape rooms in and around Liverpool including Breakout Liverpool and also played lots of escape room games at home. but recently we ventured a little further to Breakout Chester to play their Wanted room.
Wanted Escape Room At Breakout Chester
After a long night gambling in the saloon, you managed to lose your precious loot. Think of yourselves as outlaws of the Wild West; breaking in after hours in search of your treasures! Make sure you're out by the time the sheriff returns; even if it means leaving some of your riches behind or you'll end up spending the night in a cell as Breakout Chester's Most Wanted!
Before You Enter Wanted
When you arrive at Chester Breakout you will be asked to wait upstairs in the waiting room. Please note that there are quite a lot of stairs to get up to the waiting area and then to the escape rooms. There is no lift or wheelchair access at Chester Breakout so please keep this in mind before booking.
When it was our time to play our host gave us a brief safety talk and asked us if we had played at Breakout before. We have played at Breakout Liverpool so where aware that Breakout Escape Rooms have lots of lock puzzles. Some are key, numbers, direction and word locks and you have to try and solve clues to get combinations of numbers or letter to crack the lock. Our host explained that once inside our time would start and we would have 60 minutes to try and solve all the puzzles and escape.
What To Expect Inside Wanted
Your host will give you a brief background story that will lead up to the fact you are trapped in the room and you need to escape within 60 minutes. You will be shown the emergency exit and then your host will leave and your time will start to tick down on the large TV inside the room.
As mentioned before in Breakout rooms you can expect to find lots of locks which need to be opened by key, numbers or codes. The idea is you search high and low to try and find clues which might help to solve the puzzles and escape.
Your host can see and hear you at all times so if you are stuck and need a clue then you just need to ask. There was a puzzle we did that we were sure was right and our host could see we had done it right but we just needed to position the pieces more centrally and then it unlocked. So your host is always there to help.
I won't give away any spoilers for Wanted as that would take away the fun however you can expect to be locked inside a Saloon. the attention to detail is amazing and we actually felt like we were in the wild west.
With all Breakout rooms there will be red herrings. These will be items that you will not need and will try to take you off track. You won't know they are red herrings though so it's a little annoying but it does add to the fun trying to work out if it's an actual clue or not.
Anything Else?
Wanted at Breakout Chester is rated 3 out of 5 for difficulty.
Each Breakout room is suitable for 2-5 people.
Prices vary depending on the number of players and also the day of the week.
Our Thoughts
We loved Wanted. As our youngest is only 11 I thought some of the puzzles may have been a little tricky for him but he managed to crack some we couldn't. Everyone of us works differently when we enter an Escape Room and it's nice to stand back sometimes to watch how we are all working to solve the clues. Both John and I are very competitive and as we have a 100% escape record from the many rooms we have done over the years, we were hoping we would keep it. Did we escape? You will have to check our instagram to see....
This was definitely one of our favourites of the Break Out rooms we have already done so far. I love that Escape Rooms are family friendly and it's a great way for us all to spend time together.
