There’s something truly special about a trip to the theatre. I have been enjoying the theatre since I was a teenager and I am so glad that both John and my Mum enjoy the theatre too as it's more enjoyable when you get to share it with someone close to you. If you and your Mum love a night out filled with drama, laughter, or music then the West End and touring productions offer an incredible variety of shows to enjoy together.
1. Mamma Mia!
2. Wicked
3. Six
When I first saw Six the Musical I had no idea what to expect. I didn't even know it existed which is shocking really considering how popular it is. Six is now one of my all time favourites which I will watch every time it goes on tour. For a fun and modern take on history, Six reimagines Henry VIII’s six wives as a fierce girl-power pop group. With an empowering and energetic soundtrack, this show brings history to life in an exciting and contemporary way. It’s the perfect pick if you and your Mum enjoy a night of music, humour, and powerful performances.4. The Bodyguard
This is on my list to see. Based on the hit film starring Whitney Houston, The Bodyguard is a thrilling and romantic musical featuring some of Houston’s greatest hits, including I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance with Somebody. If your Mum loves powerful ballads and a gripping love story, this is a must-watch.5. Pretty Woman: The Musical
6. 2:22 A Ghost Story
2:22 A Ghost Story really opened my eyes to other types of shows you can see in a theatre. 2:22 A Ghost Story explores the human need to make sense of the inexplicable. Jenny’s insistence on the house being haunted stems from a deeper need for answers, a way to rationalise her fears and anxieties Whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, 2:22 A Ghost Story will leave you questioning what you think you know and looking over your shoulder long after the final curtain falls. It’s a hauntingly good time that is not to be missed.7. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
I have been to the theatre to watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a few times and I'm booked in to see it during its latest tour soon. Based on Ian Fleming’s timeless story for children and later made into the famous 1968 film, in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang we meet absent-minded inventor Caractacus Potts who restores a broken-down old racing car with the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy. Soon the family discover the car has magical powers, and along with the delectable Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, they end up on a fantastical adventure to far off lands. The perfect show to watch with your Mum. I grew up with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and it's a great way to reminisce of watching it on a Sunday afternoon whilst the roast dinner was cooking.8. Calamity Jane
9. & Juliet
If your Mum loves pop music and a fresh take on classic stories, & Juliet is a fantastic pick. This musical asks, “What if Juliet didn’t die at the end of Romeo & Juliet?” and follows her on a journey of self-discovery, all set to a soundtrack of hits from Max Martin, including Since U Been Gone and Baby One More Time. It’s vibrant, funny, and full of heart.10. 13 Going On 30 - The Musical
13 Going On 30 – The Musical is a totally grown up new musical comedy based on the hit 2004 film that starred Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, and it’s coming to Manchester Opera House for its World Premiere this year!
